New Yorkers for Racially Just Public Schools Statement on the Election of Zohran Kwame Mamdani

November 5, 2025

We are proud to welcome Mayor-elect Zohran Kwame Mamdani as the next leader of New York City. Mayor-elect Mamdani’s victory represents more than a change in leadership — it marks the beginning of a new era of transformational politics and a reimagining of how city government serves its people. His election offers New Yorkers an opportunity to build a more equitable, inclusive, and compassionate city — one where diversity is celebrated as a strength, not seen as a weakness.

We are eager to partner with the new administration to build a world-class, racially just public education system shaped by and for the people of this city. We believe that strong public education is essential to advancing his affordability agenda—ensuring that every New Yorker has access to safe housing, quality jobs, and real opportunity.

In the coming months, we will continue engaging communities across New York on the most pressing issues facing public education and affordability. This election is not the end — it is the beginning.

We recognize that entrenched political and economic interests, including elements of the establishment and their allies in the Trump administration, will seek to undermine the Mayor-elect’s transformative agenda. We must stand strong, united, and steadfast in our commitment to the people of New York City.

Together, we can build a city that truly belongs to all of us.
