New Yorkers for Racially Just Public Schools Response to ICE Raids

October 29, 2025

We stand in unwavering solidarity with our immigrant community. We stand with our partners and coalition members, like the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) and the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF), who are providing immediate, on-the-ground support in Chinatown and all across the city of New York.

In recent weeks, ICE, joined by several other federal law enforcement agencies, descended on our beloved Chinatown community along Canal Street. We know that this was a direct assault on our immigrant communities and the very livelihoods that sustain their families.

Let’s be clear—our communities saw this coming. And when it happened, we witnessed what New York City does best: people showed up. Brave neighbors, organizers, and allies stood shoulder to shoulder with Black and Asian street vendors who were detained, and with the protesters who refused to be silent in the face of injustice. New Yorkers WON’T stand silently while ICE abuses people’s humanity. Our neighbors and even visitors interrupted, confronted, and documented these atrocities, putting their bodies on the line.

We demand that Mayor Eric Adams uphold New York City’s sanctuary laws, defend this city from ICE’s abuse of power, and ensure that all detained vendors and protesters are released without delay. While innocent New Yorkers were detained and Black, Latine and Asian people were violently assaulted, our corrupt Mayor is sitting on the sidelines of the Knicks game, with Andrew Cuomo, doing Trump’s and other millionaires’ bidding.

No ICE in New York, not in our schools, in our homes, in our neighborhoods, or on our streets. However, if they come, we will be ready. We will defend our families, our neighbors, and the promise that New York City is, and must remain, a sanctuary city.

And to those looking to lead this city next: we call on you to stand firm against the xenophobic and violent policies of the Trump regime. Protect our immigrant and undocumented neighbors. Enact policies that ensure New York remains a city of refuge, dignity, and justice for all.
